Grimm presents the first Annual Open throwers challenge!

For Throwers from all all walks of life, a challenge to keep your eye keen and your arm strong.

Please note:

This is an open throwing challenge. It is not an official SCA challenge. You do not need a SCA Marshal to participate, Just a desire to compete with others and a sense of honor to report your own scores! This is my humble attempt to have an avenue for throwers of all weapon types to compete and compare scores.

The rules:

This contest shall run from April 1st to October 31st.

As of right now there are 5 categories for weapon types:

  5. Other (anything else)

Axes and knives must be thrown from a minimum of 8 feet, Atlatl must be thrown from a minimum of 10 yards, spears must be thrown from a minimum of 20 feet.. Further distances are allowed as long as you keep it safe. For any weapon that fall in the “other” category, please contact me at grimm@grimmsfield.com for distance.

The Contest will consist of 16 ends:

Each end will consist of throwing 3 projectiles (axes, knives etc.) at the target. In order to score, all three throws must be completed and the thrower must walk up to the target to score them. Any projectile that falls from the target before the thrower reaches the target shall count as a 0. Once a round is started, there shall be no throwing between scoring rounds till all 12 have been thrown.

4 Target Ends - This will use a 5 ring target (outer white Black, blue, Red and inner yellow),with each ring being 2 3/8 inches wide (60 cm Target archery target) Paper targets may be used or circles drawn on the target. 4 Bull's Eye Ends - This will consist of 4 ends thrown at a 2 ring target. The inner ring will be 4 and 3/4 inches (the yellow and red on a 60 cm target) and the outer circle will be an additional 2 3/8 in wide ( the blue on a 60 cm target) All weapons within or touching the inner circle score five points. All weapons outside the center bull's eye but within or touching the outer circle score 3 points each. 3 weapons must be thrown for each end and scored as a group of 3

4 Chain Throw Ends (Updated for 1.1) - This is to replace a speed round. weapons are to be thrown in groups of 3 at a 60 mm target. Regular Royal Rond scoring will be used (gold 5, red 4, blue 3, black 2, white 1). As long as 1 weapon scores, you may advance to the 2nd round. In the 2nd round, a group of 3 weapons will be thrown at the target using RR scoring except that white will count as a miss. As long as 1 weapon scores, you may advance to the 3rd round. The 3rd round is exactly the same as round 2 except that both white & black are misses. As long as 1 weapon scores you may advance to round 4. Round 4 has White, Black & Blue counting as a miss. any score advances to the next round where only gold scores. This will continue till all 3 weapon fails to produce a score. At that point, the round is over, and the total number of points is recorded. Please note, any time you get to throw another round, you get to throw all three. Even if the 1st one does not score, you still get to throw the other 2. you just do not get another round unless one of the 3 scores..
